Thousands Lost Power in Queensland and Victorian Regions Following Severe Weather Systems

Around 25,000 homes in south-east Queensland found themselves experiencing outages on Monday's dawn after powerful weather events impacted the region, generating powerful gusts reaching 109km/h.

Large Ice Stones and Extensive Damage

Locals reported large ice chunks measuring up to seven centimeters in certain regions. Meteorological experts verified that multiple regions across the state had been hit with significant hail.

Utility workers were focused on reestablishing electricity service throughout the impacted areas, with nearly 70 crews activated to manage the extensive power failures.

Southern State's Climate Difficulties

At the same time, nearly 1,000 residents in the southern state also encountered power outages after the metropolitan area recorded its heaviest rainfall in 18 months.

State Emergency Services responded to nearly 600 emergency reports across the state, mostly for structural issues but also for downed trees and flooding.

At one point on Sunday, in excess of 28,000 power users in Victoria were experiencing outages.

Meteorological Predictions

Humid circumstances were predicted to continue along significant areas of eastern Queensland this coming days as a weather pattern continued to pull in damp air against the shoreline.

The following day was expected to become the wettest day, with persistent severe weather risk expected across various areas of both areas.

Health Warning

Health officials cautioned that there was an increased chance of weather-related respiratory issues across the state's northern country region, especially given the existing atmospheric conditions.

This warning comes after previous incidents where similar conditions led to major medical consequences in the area.
